Just Enough Items is a popular and well-used Minecraft mod whose main use is to view item recipes. This is a mod that is important continually install its latest versions otherwise you will be missing the latest item recipe releases.
1. Install JarFix
For most Minecraft mods to work, you need to have installed the latest Java edition. If you have recently installed other mods, you may have already completed this step.
This Java download link is for Windows. If you use a different system from Windows, search for Java (then the system you use).
2. Download Forge
The JEI depends on Forge for it to run so this is a vital download.
Make sure you install the same Forge version as the JEI version you just downloaded. Ideally, both should match the latest MC version. To change the Forge version, just select the version your want on the left sidebar when on the Forge download page.
3. Download JEI
JEI is short for Just Enough Items. Click this link to take you to the official download page.
On the mods menu, select ‘Files’ to bring up the list of all JEI versions. Find the latest version. It will be the very top one. Click on the 3 dots, then select ‘Download File’. You may have to re-click download on the next screen for the download to begin.
4. Install Forge
Open your downloads folder and open the Forge download. Follow the instructions to install Forge.
5. Locate your Minecraft Mods Folder
In your Windows search bar (or at the same time, press the ‘Windows key’ and ‘R’ on your keyboard to bring your search bar up) type %appdata%. This brings up your computer’s roaming folder where you will find your Minecraft folder. Click on the .minecraft folder and then open up the ‘mods’ folder. If you do not have a mods folder then just simply create a new folder for it and name it ‘Mods’.
Keep this mods folder open.
6. Installing the JEI Mod
You have downloaded the JEI mod but have not officially installed it yet. Don’t worry, this is the easiest step. Simply open up your downloads folder and then drag and drop, or copy and paste the JEI mod from your downloads folder into your Minecraft Mods folder.
Once you have achieved this, you are ready to launch Minecraft.
But why don’t you just use the in-game recipes?
This is a common question, so let’s dive into why the JEI mod is much better than the pre-built in-game recipe feature.
As you know, there are hundreds, if not thousands of possible Minecraft recipes. The new MC versions come equipped with an in-game recipe book but this is clunky as not many items fit onto one page. It only fits 20 items onto one page and for some recipes, you have to manually search for them.
Whereas, the Just Enough Items mod showcases 84 items on one page and it has a more efficient sorting feature.
