How to Install Minecraft OptiFine

Install JarFix

For most Minecraft mods to work, you need to have installed the latest Java edition. If you have recently installed other mods, you may have already completed this step.

This Java download link is for Windows. If you use a different system to Windows, just search for Java (then the system you use).

Install OptiFine

Once you open this download link, the latest Minecraft version should appear at the top. If you are unsure, just click ‘Show all versions’ to be sure.

Under the latest version, click ‘Preview versions’ and then download the OptiFine that has ‘pre’ in its title. You will have to re-click the download button again on a new screen.

Open your Minecraft Mods Folder

Whilst waiting for the installation to finish, you can begin opening up your Minecraft mods folder. To do this, type %appdata% into your Windows search bar. Click enter and you should see your Minecraft folder at the top. Open it up and find your mods folder. If you do not have a mods folder, just simply create one.

Move OptiFine into your Mod Folder

Open up your downloads folder to find the newly installed OptiFine. Drag or copy and paste the OptiFine installation into your Minecraft Mods folder.

Once you have done this, you are ready to play Minecraft with OptiFine.
